Dow Wire & Cable Advances Market-Facing Strategy In Europe, The Middle East and India
New leadership named for dedicated Sales and Marketing organizations in Europe; commitment to growth markets demonstrated; European supply doubled; healthy demand cited for innovative new products Horgen, Switzerland - March 21, 2007 Dow Wire & Cable, a global business of The Dow Chemical Company, today announced steps it is taking to advance its market-facing strategy in Europe, the Middle East and India to meet healthy demand growth and changing wire and cable performance requirements in power distribution and telecommunications. The steps include naming new leadership for its dedicated sales and marketing organizations in Europe, optimizing its structure for direct collaboration with end-users and cable manufacturers, demonstrating its commitment to specific growth markets, and doubling its European supply. The business also cited healthy demand for new wire and cable resins and compounds launched in 2006. “Dow Wire & Cable is advancing its market-facing business model to meet healthy European demand growth and changing market dynamics in Europe and the Middle East,” said Tim Laughlin, global business director and general manager of Dow Wire & Cable. “In our minds, the most significant trend in the global wire and cable industry is the demand for broader technology solutions from end users in the power and telecommunications industries. We are responding by building dedicated sales, marketing and technical organizations that are optimized for direct collaboration with all participants in the value chain.” “To accelerate the growth of our dedicated sales and marketing organizations, it therefore gives me great pleasure to name Benoit Fritz as the new Sales Director for Dow Wire & Cable in Europe, the Middle East, and India. In this position, Tarimo will be responsible for driving marketing strategies and application development for Dow Wire & Cable across the region. Prior to taking up this position, Tarimo served as the Base Plastics Business Research Manager in Europe. He is based in Horgen, Switzerland. As part of the evolution of its market-facing strategy, Dow Wire & Cable is also stepping up its commitment to emerging growth markets such as Russia, Eastern Europe and some key countries in the Middle East. “These markets are experiencing double digit demand growth at this time, especially in high voltage power distribution applications,” said Benoit Fritz. “To meet this demand, we have doubled our supply of high purity insulation compounds and semi-conductive compounds in Europe.” “We are focused on delivering the right product for any given end use application,” Fritz continued. “As a portal to the broad assets and capabilities of The Dow Chemical Company, we are not limited to polyethylene-based products, but can also tap a full range of elastomer products as well, including product families such as ENGAGE™ Polyolefin Elastomers.” According to Fritz, Dow Wire and Cable is experiencing healthy demand for several new products that were launched in 2006.
