Dow Announces Availability of DOWLEX™ 2344 Polyethylene Resin in North America

Houston, TX - June 19, 2006

The Dow Chemical Company today announced the commercial availability of DOWLEX™ 2344 Polyethylene Resin in North America. The new product is a polyethylene resin of raised temperature resistance (PE-RT) for domestic and industrial radiant floor heating pipe applications. In these applications, DOWLEX 2344 has appeal for pipe producers and installers or contractors.

“Dow has a successful track record with this innovative product in Europe and is now excited to make it commercially available in North America,” said Heather Lau, North America Market Manager for Plastic Pipe at The Dow Chemical Company. “It is ideally suited for domestic radiant floor heating applications in the northern regions and for industrial pipe applications where traditional PE is limited by temperature resistance or where metallic materials would suffer from corrosion.”

For pipe producers and converters, DOWLEX 2344 delivers excellent long term hydrostatic strength at high temperature without the need for crosslinking, potentially resulting in significant processing speed and economic advantages over other materials used in these applications. The resin has a PPI listing at 180° (and is currently differentiated as the only non-crosslinked PE) and is a competitive choice for non-potable heating pipe applications covered by class 1, 2, 4 and 5 of ISO 10508.

Pipe made from DOWLEX™ 2344 is suitable for use in all non-potable radiant floor heating pipe applications. It is extremely flexible, facilitating easier installation, and because it is not crosslinked it can be recycled for sustainability.
